OUR HISTORY…
The Tiffen Company is a leading American manufacturer of imaging accessories for the consumer/professional imaging, Motion Picture & Television and broadcast industries.
Users of the accessories range from discerning amateurs, videographers and television production to renowned major motion picture cinematographers, all putting their trust in Tiffen filters to do their job accurately and consistently.
The company was originally founded by Sol Tiffen in 1938 and later joined by two of his brothers Leo and Nat. At the time, the company sold an array of camera accessories for amateur and professional photographers such as filters, adapter rings and lens accessories. However, the optical filters were made by other companies and were inconsistent in color and quality. This caught Nat’s attention, and after years of research and development, Tiffen would bring their first filters to the market. This was not just another filter, but a major breakthrough for filter technology.
In 1951, Tiffen’s new proprietary, ColorCore™ technology was used to manufacture Tiffen glass filters. Over the years the company was involved in manufacturing a wide array of filter accessories with Sol managing the consumer photography business, Leo overseeing the company’s entrance into the audio-visual market and Nat managing manufacturing and the motion picture and television business.
Today, Tiffen Filters are still manufactured in their Hauppauge, Long Island factory with additional facilities in Burbank, California and at the Pinewood Studios outside of London, England.
Tiffen has been recognized with numerous awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences®, as well as multiple EMMY® Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. In addition to other awards and patents the company has received.
